1st Year Dynasty Team

Postby jake_twothousandfive » Tue Apr 03, 2007 6:37 pm

This is the first year of a 14 team dynasty leauge. I went with talented youth throughout the draft and often passed on proven vets for more talented younger players. My pitching staff in particular will take a while to develop, but when it does it should be a force to be reckoned with.

Also, we just completed our draft and the WW is locked until Friday. Since I drafted two players on the DL (Liriano and Wang) I have two spots that I can fill.

My Team:
C - Chris Iannetta, Col C
1B - Conor Jackson, Ari 1B
2B - Robinson Cano, NYY 2B
3B - David Wright, NYM 3B
SS - Michael Young, Tex SS
LF - Hideki Matsui, NYY LF
CF - Rocco Baldelli, TB CF
RF - Vladimir Guerrero, LAA RF, DH
UTIL - Delmon Young, TB RF
UTIL - Chad Tracy, Ari 3B
Bench Mark Teahen, KC 3B
Bench Ryan Freel, Cin CF, RF
Bench Brandon Wood, LAA SS
Bench Jorge Cantu, TB 2B

P - Jason Schmidt, LAD SP
P - Matt Garza, Min SP
P - Pat Neshek, Min RP
SP - Roy Oswalt, Hou SP
SP - Felix Hernandez, Sea SP
SP - Cole Hamels, Phi SP
RP - Francisco Cordero, Mil RP
RP - Bob Wickman, Atl RP
Bench Zach Duke, Pit SP
Bench Philip Hughes, NYY SP
Bench Homer Bailey, Cin SP
DL Chien-Ming Wang*, NYY SP DL15
DL Francisco Lirano

Maybe you should have tried for more proven vets, due to the fact that putting your season on the shoulder's on >unproven< but seemingly promising youngsters is either a good thing or a bad thing, depending on how they produce.

Kick Jorge Cantu and your catcher, and look around for power, or someone that could give you SB.

I personally do not see much wrong with this team.

Vets like:

Oswalt
Schmidt
King F (relative I guess)
Matsui
Vlad
Rocco
Tracey

Will help you get through the next few seasons. man this team will/could be a monster in a year or 2.

This is a good start.

I think you should go forward with the mindset that you're building for a given year, maximizing most players' peaks at the same time. It looks like three years from now.

Matsui and Tracy could or should go for younger players, particularly Matsui.

Thoughts on mine?

I can see where you are coming from, but would making my team even younger be a good idea? Most of my players are still trying to find their place in this leauge. It seems like adding more players like that would be too much of a risk for it to really be worth it. I have to have some veterans to anchor my team.

Every team in the majors goes through the same decisions.

Google "baseball" and "success cycle." It all depends on where you are at now. Where you have a lot of kids now, winning right now isn't an option. You need to pick a year and go for that.

Right now, if you can weed through the youngsters successfully (like a real life Royals or Rays), you'll establish your foundation.

A Matsui will be useless when you will be a champion. Trade him for an established guy, sure, but someone on the good side of 30.

For your team, 30 should be your cut off point, unless it's a stud like Vladdy.

But an Orlando Cabrera, if you had him, would go at or shortly after 30.

The bottom line is that you always trade and sign players to get better. But keep an eye on the age involved. If your team peaks in the same 2 to 3 year range, that's perfect.

little help with mine please?
