I feel pretty week at pitching, considering trading to get another ace. Any suggestions?
I'd look to see if you could acquire a couple decent save options and use them for the first month, then re-evaluate your situation. Your pitching staff has a lot of question marks after the likes of Smoltz and Harang, but there are some guys with upside like Patterson, Capuano, Cabrera and Bonser.
Your offense is a 3-headed monster. Steals should be a breeze with Hanley, Rollins, Beltran, Damon and Sizemore. The other offensive categories should be yours too. Your team offense looks strong all-around, top to bottom.
I would definately look to shore up your pitching and add some relievers who can get you saves. I'd suggest dealing Rollins and Contreras for an upgrade in pitching and a decent MI replacement. I'd also shop around FA for some options.
List the top FA hitters and pitchers... Is Julio available? Otsuka? Snell? James? (J.)Shields? Those are all guys I'd rather have than Pavano on your staff.
You have tons of speed; I would suggest trading Ramirez, Rollins, Damon or Sizemore for a more elite pitcher. Your power seems decent so don't be afraid to trade Sizemore for a #1 pitcher (I believe you could trade him for any pitcher except Santana)
What are the points? Depending how they are configured, this could be genius or terrible.... If saves are worth as much or more than wins, then you'll have to rethink this strategy.
we used a cbs sportsline league, and our crazy commissioner made about 20 categories, but hits, 2b, 3b, HR are 5 10 15 20, steals 9 wins 40, saves 20, K's 6 and other stuff around -2 to 2, so it seemed pretty heavily weighted towards hitting and strikeout pitching. It also is not an average league, so 2 start pitchers are pretty important. We had a lot of guys that obviously didn't read up at all and drafted older players that they heard of in the world series (Jim Edmonds types)
I would try and trade cuddyer, damon and overbay for steals and more power. Their high OBP but low steal and Hr rates won't help you with standard categories.
that definately makes sense, after the first day yesterday Im psyched to have a guy like hanley, he had a monster day. Also is anyone else worried that with all the ROY candidates on Florida last year, some of them are bound to drop off? They'll be unreal if Hanley, uggla, johnson and company stay on the same track
