fake to third pickoff move

I have never EVER seen this actually work. Until just now in the mets cards game to pick off Reyes of all people. Just when you think youve seen it all.

Looked to me like it should have been called a balk. The pitcher did not step towards third. He stepped towards home. That's a balk.

Yep, that was a balk. Reyes shouldn't have been caught there.

I havnt seen it but the pitcher doesnt have to go all the way to third in can be between the two or even leaning twords home more. Ill have to see it but it could of been a good move.

Pettitte balks on most of his pickoff moves to first and they don't call those either. The umps are pretty lenient with that stepping toward the base requirement.

In general people don't understand the balk moves and are wrong about things being a balk, this is not the exception to that rule.

I've seen it work a few times. Generally though, it doesn't.

Tonight it was definitely a balk...without question....
