Padres agreed to terms with first baseman-outfielder Brian Buchanan on a one-year, $650,000 contract.
The Padres struck out in their attempts to add a center fielder, so Buchanan will keep his job as a pinch-hitter and occasional starter against left-handers.

Padres non-tendered first baseman Todd Sears.
The Padres would like to re-sign Sears to a minor league deal, but he might want to head elsewhere. If he returns to San Diego, he might not have a bench spot.
Miguel Ojeda - C - San Diego Padres Dec 20

Padres non-tendered catcher Miguel Ojeda.
Ojeda will probably be re-signed to a minor league contract. He's one of the candidates to back up Ramon Hernandez for the Padres next season.

Padres non-tendered LHP Mike Matthews.
Matthews had a 4.45 ERA in 64 2/3 innings for the Padres last season. He should be able to get a major league contract from some club.

Well they are still paying Wiki (C)...might as well make him the backup and see if he can't raise his trade value. The more at bats he gets in the minors, the more other teams will realize he sucks.

Good point.... ....atleast Wiki won't get many AB's in the majors....
