Kerry Wood has fans? I mean, outside of the hospital? 8-o

I know what you mean, but he actually has to come back and stay healthy to take the job. It just won't happen, IMO.

His health allowing of course. But yes, Wood is still a big enough name for the Cubs fans to be demanding a chance for him at closer, especially if Dempster struggles, which is a likely scenario. IMO, Wood doesn't have to pitch particularly well to take the job, he just has to not be injured, which is a task in itself for Wood though.

Gotta go with other. I believe Lidge will loose his job before any of the others listed.

There will come a day when Barry Bonds leaves baseball, and everything about the game will be the better for it.

Why in the heck do 13% of you think Torres is gonna lose the closer job first? He's nothing special, but he gets outs. He saved 12 games at the end of the 2006 with only one blown save. Mike Williams and Jose Mesa were exactly the same as he is...not dominant but gets the other team out. They both had 40+ save seasons with the Bucs. I see no reason why Torres can't do the same thing.

Yes, Capps is an option, but Tracy has said nothing about making him the closer this year. I honestly don't think he'll be closing this year until maybe at the very end when the Pirates are out of the hunt.

Agree 100%. Unless Torres blows up completely, Capps won't be the closer this year.

This is a case of people seeing the ever popular "closer of the future" and wishing for it to happen immediately.
