Why no love for Juan Rivera?

Postby Tis » Sat Mar 31, 2007 6:48 pm

He seems like a solid late round OF... High average, good power, numbers look even better projected over more than 450 games. Yet seems to go undrafted every draft I'm in. Is there something I don't know?

He's out until June/July.

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

Maybe if it was a wheelchair league. . .

He broke his leg and won't be back til around the All-Star break I believe, so he goes undrafted.

ahh... when did that happen? he hasnt been updated on Yahoo, and the note is from today. Its a question thats been bugging me for weeks...

So... if it wasnt until recently, it hasnt effected any but the very last draft Ive done, and my question still stands.

More of a why didnt he get respect though now i suppose.

Reason he is going un-drafted is cause his broken leg was announced back in December.

I traded him at 1-point in my keeper league for 70-point Gary Sheffield. Guess I'm going for it this year.

I was able to claim him in a fairly deep league (12 teams x 30 man rosters + another 5 DL slots). Given our settings I saw it as an oversight that he wasn't drafted? He should be officially DLed in a day or two, and I'll have room to stash him. Were I in a league without all that DL room I wouldn't have rostered him until he was closer to returning.

Cmon Bud, NOW is the time to sack up and force feed an Olympic style drug program down Fehr's fat throat. Save OUR game from these blatant cheaters!

I would say anyone in a league with a DL MUST pick up Juan Rivera.

Otherwise, better have a pretty strong lineup to overcome the pre-All Star break zeroes, and potential adjustment period post-All Star.

He's stashed on my DL. The Angels have a crowded DH/OF situation, but injuries will likely work this out and Rivera should have good value after the break.

He was drafted in my 20 team league where talent is thin and we have 3 DL spots.

it was a pretty bad break. he will miss extensive. hard to say what he will be like when he returns.

Juan Rivera, recovering from a broken left tibia suffered in December, says he'd like to be back swinging a bat "in July, maybe June if I'm lucky."
The Angels would likely be happy to get two full months out of Rivera this year. They could use him as a DH to take some pressure off the leg, but even so, there's no guarantee that he'll make it back in 2007 at all.
