Comment: Quentin (torn left labrum) will start the season on the disabled list, the Arizona Republic reports.

This sucks because I had him as my 5th outfielder. Is Corey Hart a suitable replacement?

Corey Hart is more then a suitable replacement.

If it was just me, I'd snatch up Scott Hairston now. He looked alright in ST belting out 3 HRs in one game. This could be his chance to get some PT and audition for a trade.

Come on, everyone knows that's not possible.

So you wopuld say go with Hart if still avaiable while Quentin is on DL?

Yea, go with Hart.

What makes you think that? With his partially torn labrum I'm guessing that it will effect him all year and he won't come close to his '07 potential numbers....and I stayed away from him in this year's draft. ;-)

MLB.com doesn't say that he has been put on the DL yet. I found it on Yahoo. My league uses MLB.com as our official source, so i can't pick a free agent up till they post it. :-[ . They constantly update right?

As someone who's dealt with labrum tears, I can attest to their lasting impact.

But how can you say that you're glad you stayed away from him in the drafts? Did you have some sneaking suspicion that he was going to be hurt? What reasoning were you using when you drafted to stay away from him?

My league has 2 DL spots. I'm already using 1 of them on Josh Johnson. Is it worth using the other on Quentin, or should I just drop him?

Why drop him now since you have a second DL slot available? You can always drop him later if you need the slot.

Hairston is replacing Quentin and he was on fire in Spring Training. Definitely worth a look for the short term.

From MLB.com:

Outfielder Carlos Quentin (labrum tear) took early batting practice on the field Friday and reported no pain in his left shoulder. He was watched closely from behind the cage by manager Bob Melvin and head athletic trainer Ken Crenshaw.

"It felt good," Quentin said. "[On Saturday], I'll hit with these guys, and I'll feel more like a part of the team. I'll do some days of that and see what they want to do with me after that."

Quentin fully extended his left arm hitting offspeed pitches to right field and didn't have any discomfort.

"I'm pretty confident that after the rehab process I'll be fine," he said. "I've been building up strength so that it will be able to withstand the swings."
