Batting order?

Postby Rance Mulliniks » Sat Mar 31, 2007 2:56 pm

So what will the Jays order look like this season? I'd heard that Overbay will likely be the #2 hitter - I like his ability to make contact and pound doubles, but shouldn't we have a bit more speed at the top of the order?

Yeah, Overbay will be the #2 hitter, agaisnt righties atleast. I think Rios might move up to #2 agaisnt lefties. Other than that, I think we'll put Jason Smith into the lineup at SS agaisnt some tough righties during the season (hopefully John McDonald will no longer actually start games with him on the team), with Phillips in the lineup at catcher agaisnt lefties every once in a while. Other than that, I can't see much changing.

The reason putting Overbay in the lineup at #2 is because of the gap there will be on the right side of the infield if Reed gets on base there. Overbay has very good bat control, particularly in his ability to hit the ball to the right. I think he could pick up a lot of singles that he wouldn't get just by hitting at that spot in the order agaisnt righties.

I'd like to see a batting order of...

Hill
Rios
Lind
Wells
Thomas
Overbay
Glaus
Zaun
Clayton

Hill and Rios are just flat out good hitters and need to be at the top of the order, moving Thomas and Glaus back a bit.

I don't think it's very realistic to think many of those things will happen. Glaus at #7? :-? Vernon is always going to hit in the #3 spot for us as well.

Yup as you can see I was never a big fan of Glaus, glad to get Rolen for him.

Anyone want to put forth the batting order for next year?

I must say, I'm pretty excited to see how the lineup does this year, especially with the hitters we were sending out there last year, especially with the injuries.
(ie Johnny Mac, Olmedo, Russ Adams etc.)
