I have the opporunity to pick up the following as free agents, but I have to drop someone (or I suppose Johnson would be on the DL...). Anyhoo, here's some of what's available:
Batters
Lo Duca, Paul
Lamb, Mike
Ethier, Andre
DeJesus, David
Johnson, Reed
DeRosa, Mark
Inge, Brandon
Thames, Marcus
Feliz, Pedro
Relief Pitching
Reyes, Dennys
Feliciano, Pedro
Meredith, Cla C.
Soriano, Rafael
Starting Pitching
Johnson, Randy (Could put him on the DL I think)
Prior, Mark (?)
Lee, Cliff (gets a lot of Ks)
FWIW, it's a 12 team 6x6 roto non-keeper league with holds and OPS as the two added categories.
I need advice here guys otherwise I'm going to get crushed in this league of mostly veterans.
Cliff Lee wouldnt be a bad pickup. I would also consider Andre Ethier to add some young legs to your team and add another young leg to your outfield. Also, Pedro Feliz starts hot, so that might not be a quick pick me up. Good Luck
I would add ethier for sure....he did so well at the end of last year, i definitely see that continuing into this season....Also, I think your relief pitching needs lots of help....I know closers are the most volatile positions, but try making a trade and adding another one
Drop Biggio, he's nothing any more. I'd look to see if Reed Johnson of Tor is still on the waivers (he should be, yahoo has him really low because he doesn't help with RBI's at all, but he'll help in AVG, R, and SB.
I agree that RPs need help. And I agree that Reid Johnson adds to your strengths in AVG, steals, runs. I don't think you've got a lot of pop, unless Pena actually stays healthy and has the crushing kind of year that one day out of twenty he looks capable of. I don't see an easy fix on the power side, so I'd look to build the strengths you have. For that reason, you might drop Biggio and get Lo Duca for the utility spot--he can hit over 300 and score runs, especially if he stays in the two spot for the Mets.
