Why so low on Melvin Mora?

Postby The Guru » Fri Mar 30, 2007 6:53 pm

Why are so many people so low on Melvin Mora?

Sure he had a down year last year but I don't see why he can't bounce back to what he did the two years prior.

He hit 27 HRs in both 04 and 05. Steals about 10 bases each year. Hits 2nd or 3rd in a solid lineup in front of Tejada.

He's in his prime, so why so low? I just don't get it.

I wouldn't call 35 his "prime".

he's quite an interesting case. he slugged .386 in 3069 minor league at bats over parts of 11 seasons. he broke out at age 32 to the tune of .340/.419/.562. the guy's career average in every other season works out to .268. i wanted no part of him this year, but i always wondered what clicked in 2004

Heres a pretty good observation:

It seemed like overnight that Mora went from light-hitting Mets castoff to a .320-25-100 player with the Orioles. It's apparently taking him longer to fade back into obscurity. Mora's extra-base hits, RBIs and batting average all slipped for the second consecutive year in 2006, leaving Mora as an average player at a burgeoning fantasy position. And at age 35, we doubt he'll reverse that trend.
