Anyone picking up Mets/Cards for sunday?

Postby eftda » Fri Mar 30, 2007 6:07 pm

I just picked up Alou and David Eckstein for sundays game. Eckstein will fill in for Furcal for awhile, but I have no plans on keeping Alou past sunday night. Anyone else do this? Idid it last year with some White Sox and had a 1-6 night.

Which furcal is this you are referring to? Rafael Furcal is on the dodgers I believe.

Picked up Glavine to replace Rogers - was surprised he was available as I remember him being drafted.

Mar 27 According to the Dodgers official Web site, Furcal's ankle is showing signs of improvement, however, it is uncertain if he will be ready for Opening Day.

So you're going to use Alou for 3 at-bats vs Carpenter and then drop him? :-?

He'll get 2 at-bats at most. If he has 3 then he will be having an awesome day.

I think Alou will have more than 2 AB unless there is an injury or something. Anyway, I'm not really sure what you mean by this thread lol. If you're just spot starting because it's the first day of the season than I'm not sure it's that great of an idea. :)

Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey

sounds like a good idea with no games limit and some roster flexibility B-)

some people might consider it kind of cheap though.

I don't really get the thought behind this to be honest. Do you grab a bunch of guys on a Monday or Thursday when there aren't a lot of games? Not really worth it to grab guys that no one even wants just to get 3 at bats...there's a reason they're on the WW.

if i was going all out to win, yeah i would try to fill in people on off days. who wouldn't do that? the benefit in counting stats vastly outweighs a possible slight BA hit. if you have the flexibility, why not do it.

the thing is though, if the league you're playing in isn't really hardcore, starting the season off by doing this, might not be in your best interest.

kind of like the reasoning in poker, that if you're playing at a weak table and people are just having fun, you don't want to sit there thinking over every decisions as it will just serve to elevate the play of your opponents.
