The Newart Star-Ledger is reporting that the Mets and Braden Looper have agreed to terms on a two-year, $6.5 million contract. Not a bad deal. Looper may not really be worth over $3 million per season, but it's only for two years and the move means that the team's young relief prospects will be able to settle in as middle men.
Little to much money....IMO....

England's Worcester Canoe Club set the world record for paddling a hand-propelled bathtub. The 25 man team covered a distance of 55 miles, 425 yards in 24 hours on September 28 and 29, 1979.
$3 million per season for a 3rd tier closer is borderline "too much." If Looper can save 35+ and not blow half his opportunities, THEN he'll warrant that much...BTW, does anyone a list of what all the league's signed closers make per year? Just curious to see how Looper ranks amoungst some of the elite as far as salary goes.
Devil Rays signed RHP Danys Baez, who had been with the Indians, to a two-year, $6.5 million contract with an option for 2006. Baez, who replaces Lance Carter as Tampa Bay's closer, will earn $1.5 million in 2004 and $3.5 million in 2005, plus a $500,000 signing bonus and an opportunity to make $250,000 bonuses each season. The Devil Rays have a $4 million option for 2006 with a $1 million buyout.
The few wins by the Rays won't lead to many save opps for Baez....

Still nothing on Urbina? I've got him as a keeper for $8 in my home league. I need him to go to a team that will win 70-80 games this year so he gets lots of opps. Are the Twins still looking for a closer?

Last I heard, the Twins were the leading candidates to get Urbina.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
From rototimes: Jan. 8 The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Billy Koch (P) CWS is expected to get the main closing duties for the White Sox this season. If he falters again, Damaso Marte and Cliff Politte are on hand.

Is there something wrong with Marte that I don't get? Is he not getting a chance to close cause he is a lefty?
