I have been offered Joe Mauer for Berkman straight up...With the way my draft went, I have pretty good depth, but am hurting at C (Josh Bard)...I would have to move Bonds or someone to the OF (could make another deal).

I don't know if I would make that trade straight up. Berkman is an all around fantasy contributer besides SBs. Mauer has a little injury risk tag right now.

It would make your team look better, but I don't know if the value is there for you.

I think you'd be crazy to do that deal! There is some value to position scarcity, Mauer won't put up anywhere near the numbers that Berkman will:

Berkman: .315/95/45/136/3
Mauer: .347/86/13/84/8

Mauer won't hit .350 again, maybe .325 and that's the only cat where he has an advantage. Since you only have one starting catcher I'd just play the hot hand there. Start out with Bard, but keep your eye on free agents too. Throw in the fact that Mauer is hurt and Berkman is eligible at two positions and that makes Berkman all that much more valuable. I alos think that you need the HR & RBI that Berkman brings to the table.

Good luck!

I would just pick up Paulino from the WW and hope for the season he is supposed to have. You dont need a stud at every position and trading a guy like Berkman for a catcher who only plays 140 games a year and has a good chance of getting hurt is a tough choice.

And I own Mauer in my holdover league...

I would certainly not do that deal. Berkman is among the elite power hitters in the mlb and who knows if Mauer is going to bat .350 again...

I wouldn't worry about your catcher position. Berkman is too valuable to be giving up for Mauer in this situation. what I think you need to think about addressing is your 2B situation, but that's just my opinion (that Uggla will have a down year). What you want is overall stats on the board, and the fact is that Mauer won't do for you what Berkman will, especially with Carlos Lee to protect him! He will see better pitches and destroy them.
