As said earlier, I don't recall ever reading in the Bible or any other book whether Jesus spoke out specifically about pornography, but the principles are there. Pornography is so easily accessible now and the numbers of users is staggering so a ministry of this sort, directed right at the problem, is great.

As opposed to ancient Rome when porn was drawn on the sides of public buildings? :-b

I know, I know... it's not the same.

And I remember a bunch of hoopla a few years ago surrounding the "secret" room at the Naples Museum of Archaeology being opened to the public. It contains a bunch of ancient porn. Anyway, it's no secret that humans have been interested in sexuality--and methods of expressing it--for as long as there have been human beings.

Anyway, I wasn't sure if any of the gospels say that Jesus ever spoke about it, and I figured you guys could point me in the right direction if they did.

edit: here's a link about the "secret room" at the Naples Museum...pretty interesting stuff:

See above explanations as to how it is spoken of in the Bible.

Anyway, I totally agree that there was porn of some sort back then. The big difference being there was no photographic porn. Of course even beyond that I have never seen ancient drawings that were much more recognizable than what I could make. Definitely not the same stuff we are dealing with in this day and age. Even if you took out the photographic stuff from today I am sure the cartoon "fake"/anime stuff of today is way worse than what they may have had then.

EDIT: OK, they were pretty realistic back then. Ummmmm Art, that link might not be on par with cafe standards. ;-D

Still nothing compared to what will come up today, so my posts still stand. :-D

That's some good points there joel. Photographs vs. 'art' or imagination. I still believe that addiction could result from either, but I wonder if lust would relate to a statue or a drawing, as opposed to a photograph.

I think that addiction could/would result from both. And yes, I think that lust would result from both as well because otherwise people wouldn't bother to still make it when we have photography/vidoegraphy like we have today.

(And yeah, I don't think videography is a word, but it works) :-b

So while it was then IMO still lustful thing, it still wasn't up to the extent that we had today. Some of the stuff that you can accidentally fall into on the internet is equivalent to being in the same room with somebody. So it is much more in your face even if it was on the sides of the public buildings, etc.

I don't think that there is a single child over the age of 12 that hasn't experienced pornography in some way or fashion. That is how prevalent it is in our society today.

Porn is an avenue for lust which Jesus does speak directly against. There were ancient religions who used sex acts as forms of worship so I'm not surprised there are records of this.

Sex was also a big part of ancient, pre-monotheistic history. The Romans and Greeks were mentioned, but orgies were fairly prevalent all over Asia and north Africa. I've seen "History of Sex" on the History channel before. There may not have been pornographic photographs back then, but it also seems that public sexual displays weren't unusual. Plus, the Greeks wrestled each other naked... I'm not sure if it turned sexual, but I imagine it was at least awkward. Personally, I wouldn't want to be flopping around during a fight.

Also, I believe the term "missionary position" is derived from Christian missionaries visiting secluded villages for the first time. There they found unusual "sex acts" and forbade the villagers from engaging in such, instead encouraging the traditional man-on-top position.

Personally, I think the missionaries were just jealous that these people were having more fun than them :-b

I don't know, I think when it comes right down to it, it's human nature... doing just about anying excessively can be unhealthy and I think it's something humanity has struggled with long before modern society; sex, drugs, alcohol, violence and gambling have all been vices of society since the dawn of civilization.

But, we've made it this far
If you're a battery, you're either working or you're dead....
