I still agree with Yoda that Julio has a long leash in Florida. He just doesn't have a long leash with my fantasy teams anymore. If anyone could pull off a Chacon version 2004 season it's Julio the way he's pitching right now. That might have value in some league (7+ era with 30+ saves) but not in the leagues in which I play. I was hoping Julio could at least put up his career average numbers (4.31 era, 1.41 whip) in Florida...that would have had nice value and given the fact that they went out and traded for him he probably would have kept the closer job all year (and still might). But he's a mess...he's way worse than he usually is at this point and I'd say that unless you're truly desperate for the saves I'd stay away.

manager fredi gonzalez seems to support julio.
as a owens/tankersley owner i'd love to see the next save opp be a 1-run lead. i bet he'll have to think twice about putting julio in, and if he does, there will def. be a quick hook as soon as he gets in trouble.

so heres to close games!
Yeah, I don't think Julio is in immediate danger of losing his job. I just think that in some fantasy formats you have to be willing to have a quicker hook than the real life manager. Julio is not missing any bats right now which makes him a wrecking-ball to all ratio categories while giving you the chance at a handful of saves. Julio putting up his career norm numbers would be a valuable fantasy commodity. The guy that's on the mound right now is not that guy.

Not so fast on that support...

Unless he dramatically improves his performance, and quickly, it seems only a matter of time before Julio loses his very shaky hold on the closer job. Henry Owens, Matt Lindstrom and Taylor Tankersley (expected to return from the DL Friday) would be the most likely candidates to replace him.
Maine has a good swing for a pitcher but on anything that moves, he has no chance. And if it's a fastball, it has to be up in the zone. Basically, the pitcher has to hit his bat. - Mike Pelfrey
