He hit double digit homers this past year and is surrounded by big bats in Seattle. With pudge gone it's gonna be harder for Pierre to get 100 runs. His SB will be up there but that's just one category out of 5 that he will beat Ichiro at.

take ichiro. based on the other marlins stolen base attempts going down based on their new manager in the second half of the season, i wouldn't be surprised to see mckeon keep pierre from running as often. ichiro should be steady in most categories (BA, RBIs).
I'd go with Ichiro. He helps in all 5 catagories and his ceiling is higher. I don't forsee Pierre hitting .325 or better, while Ichiro has the chance to do that. Ichiro will also hit a few home runs, where Pierre won't. Granted Pierre is the very definition of steals, but I'd go with the guy that helps in all catagories.

Ichiro also. Less chance of downside. I always worry that Pierre will forget how to get on first base. Pierre might get you 20-30 extra SB, but you get the probability of a much higher batting average, 8-12 more HR, a ton more RBI's and equal or better on runs.
Also, theres always the chance that Pierre plays worse, and Ichiro out-steals him, too. No chance that Ichiro would play worse and Pierre would out HR/RBI him. (probably BA too)
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.

I take Ichiro over Pierre if they're both available at the same time . . . unless you project Pierre to get 90 steals (i.e., to nearly clinch a category for you singlehandedly, which allows you to take speedless sluggers with your other picks) that doesn't seem too tough. But if you look at the mock draft on this site (click "Cheat Sheets")--where Ichiro went 35th and Pierre went 66th--it's a much closer call. Who do y'all think got a better *value* in the draft, AA (who took Ichiro at 35) or DK (Pierre at 66)?
[Or do we not play those reindeer-revisionist games at the Cafe? New kid, not trying to violate protocol!]

I was in that draft and I'd rather have Pierre in the 6th round instead of Ichiro in the 3rd.
