strategy i've been trying for a few years now..

i drafted best overall hitters n top low era n whip closers first. bareley touchd starting pitchers to say the least. the cats are innning pitched- wins- losses-saves -strikeouts-era - whip.. now my plans are trying to take the best era n whip, if i do so i'll win the pitching 4 to 3. i have papelbon, rivera, ryan, n saito as my closers, thinking about filling in other pitching positons with guys like neshek/wheeler, other low era n whip guys. there are 3 other teams in my leauge that are doing what im doing but opposite, they are using all starting pitchers to dominate the other cats that i would lose. but my question is, what do ya think of this strategy. my 4 closing pitchers up there, every week verse a johan santana, carpnter, halliday, i'll still win my whip n era. right? all other cats push, it comes down to era n whip? i know i'll blow up some weeks, but the average is, these closer have overall lower era n whip. what ya think? sorry for such a long post.

If I'm understanding this correctly, you'll win 3 cats and lose 3 cats in a good week. In a bad week where a closer might get slammed and a loss you might lose more than 3 cats. Not a very sound strategy in my book (although I feel like I'm missing something).

yeah, missing saves, that would be another win for me. now by me doing this i also have a kick ass offense due to this style of drafting.

Well...the title of the post says you've used this strategy for the past few years...how well has it worked in the past?

Personally, I just like drafting for balance.

Maybe IP too...

If he has nearly 7-8 RP's goin for a whole week...they could each go maybe 4 innings or so...maybe it could work.

What I would do is get one STUD ace, then a few young SP's that could bust out.

last year i finished first, thanx to a homerun by ichiro in the finals, but used starters more often than what im thinking about doing, going full tilt closers low era whip guys. i always had 4 closrs, but they weren't of the likes of rivera, ryan, saito, n papelbons stats. closers have lower era n whips, im going for the kill n whip n era thats all.

that was my first idea, i knew there would b alot of good pitchers that would pop up, ex, last year verlander landed n hamels, starting pitching is the deepest. worst come to worst pick up someone going against a team.

sometimes closers get wins and sometimes when they pitch 2 innings they can even get more strikeouts than a starting pitcher.

people try this strategy every year, and I'd say it backfires every 4 out of 5 times. but good luck to you
