Well, now it is officially official....

Andy Pettitte will pitch at home, agreeing Thursday to a three-year contract with the Houston Astros after playing his entire major league career for the New York Yankees.

Despite....
The Yankees' offered the left-handed starter $39 million for three years, about $3 million more annually than Houston.

Very interesting. I thought the Yankees were smart not to match Houstons offer sheet. $10 million a year for Pettitte?? Give me a break. Turns out the Yankees actually surpassed it, but when your dealing with 10 figure salaries its gotta be worth 5 million or so to put the national league and 2,000 miles between you and Steinbrenner.

Speaking of which, Steinbrenner the bully must be feeling pretty snubbed. Colangelo in Arizona basically refused to deal Schilling to him and then probably took less to give him to his worst rival. Then a lifetime Yank and multiple world series winner takes a paycut to get out of town. Nice to see the league stand up and show that they have a pair!! ;-D

I'm surprised that there is no mention (at least I didn't see it) of the Red Sox last minute offer to him. They actually offered more than the 4 year, $52 million that they wanted from the Yanks. IMHO, it was just lip service to tweak George. I don't see why they would want to spend the money there when they already have a nice starting 5.

That's interesting too. You're take has to be right, because the Sox just don't have as deep pockets as the Yanks, (especially if they're serious about bringing in A-Rod.)
