we know when both on Lidge is the better closer has better stuff, both have replacements looking over their shoulder, Ozzie has never been shy about changing things up,
i agre Astros need Lidge to succeed & be Lidge if they are going to do anything, where as Sox can go to macdougal & still be ok
Yes, there were. I don't have time to look up the numbers right now, but he was not looking good in ST last year. Also, at that time, he wasn't as firmly established, as he had only really been the closer for a couple of months.
While that is probably true, I think part of the problem was that the Sox starters were worn down from pitching so much in the playoffs the year before - most of them were still excellent in the first half of last season, but then wore down around the all-star break. For this reason I've avoided the Tigers and Cardinals starters to the greatest extent possible this year.
