A lot of shortstops are able to make quick transitions to 3B, whether it's a utility or a full time role. Plus, Wood has been playing 3B in spring training, so his defense would probably be major league okay. Offensively, Wood is going to strike out a lot whether he plays AAA or major league, but I think he's 20 homer ready now. Batting 8th or so in the order may actually relieve some pressure on him, and he may not feel the need to hack at everything and work on his plate patience. Heck he may press more in AAA, since he'd be batting 3rd or 4th.
Francoeur was not ready, but his talent is carrying him, and he's learning. Hanley Ramirez was not ready, but he did fine. Kemp was not ready, but he did great until the league figured him out, so he got an idea what to work on. Scouts and GM's can never tell if they are rushing a prospect or taking one too slow, so if an opportunity presents itself, you give the stud prospect a shot. It's Wood's time for a cup of coffee and maybe more!
