Remember, the Braves picked up Byrd last Spring. He was fresh off the 19 win season in KC. But he had a bone spur or something and ended up missing all last year. I seem to recall him having an interview in August and saying he was ready when called upon. Why didn't the Braves use him down the stretch?
Maybe Paul Byrd is the ace the Braves are holding up their sleeve.

the last i heard was that he wasnt going to throw until nov. 1 and wouldnt be ready until sometime in the first half of '04. i dont really think too highly of him though. i thought he was just another bottenfield. btw, what did people call guys that won 17 games by pure luck before bottenfield showed up?

Andy Benes?
Bob Welch?
Scott Elarton?
Bottenfield is a great pull!
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.

I wouldn't throw Bob Welch's name in there. He is a former 27 game winner and was a pretty decent pitcher.
