He will be top trade bait if the D-Backs are out of contention around the trade deadline though.
Dbacks will be out of contention in May ..
Odd, I'm looking for the tongue-in-cheek face, but I don't see it. Bah! Nonsense! Just wait until we shore up the back end of our pitching rotation with either Darren Oliver or Estes.
D-backs will be just fine.....or...at least as good as LuGo's shoulder goes
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.

oh yeah i forgot .. .. ..
while the west will be no cake walk, but watching these teams dismantle is just wonderful .... My only concern is LA. But even they can't win every game 1-0 again .... won't happen.
But of course there is Barry and his band of AA hitters, so you never know with him either .... but '04 is not there year of the Babybacks ... and Jerry C desperatly needs it to be ..
so i'll give you this .... Not having looked at the ARZ schedule, they may survive till the "End of May" .... in all fairness that would be June .

lets go Pad' Res' ...
Cintron, Hammock and Kata figure to be the greenthumbs out there regularly. I'm not too concerned about Cintron. I'm interested to see what Hammock will be able to do this season (and hopefully he'll take most of the time away from Barajas), and should Kata falter, Baerga will fill in.
A healthy Koplove should top off a pretty decent bullpen, which leaves the rotation as my major concern. I'd rather see Fossum, Patterson and Co. duke it out to fill up the back end of the rotation. Surely there's a vet out there better than Oliver or Estes so we can put Dessens out of his misery.
To answer the question, Valverde will take over the job if Mantei is traded or gets hurt.
As to the DBacks, my #1 concern would be Gonzales's elbow. 1 throw from the outfield and he could be done for the year. The ligament is already torn, how much can it withstand before ripping completely?
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
