Mark Prior Update From Yahoo
Mar 24 Prior (shoulder) passed all the tests the day after his third Cactus League game, and the Cubs right-hander will get another start next Wednesday to see if he is ready for the regular season, the Cubs' Web Site reports.
Recommendation: "[Thursday] was an improvement, obviously, and everybody was pleased," manager Lou Piniella said. "Today was very positive. He had normal soreness that a pitcher has, normal stiffness, and nothing more." After the outing, Prior said he would be ready when the Cubs need a fifth starter on April 7. Piniella didn't want to look that far ahead, but was encouraged that Prior showed better command of his pitches. Prior's velocity was still just in the high 80s, so he'll likely have to show improvement on Wednesday to beat out Wade Miller for the fifth starter job.
I'm not trying to give anyone's hopes up, but for a FA pickup, Prior may end up being more valuable this season than people think.
