3rd round of my draft. Looking to find a dominate starter. Pitchers I am debating, Randy Johnson, Oswalt, Zito, or Mussina. Would it be better to take Smoltz, or wait til the later rounds to pick a few mediocre closers. All responses appreciated.

I think Zito or the Moose would be your best bets. Oswalt, Johnson and Smoltz may have already signed their souls away to the DL.

I agree with Savage, but pitchers I would take, in order, before those (just to be sure):

Prior
Pedro
Schilling
Halladay
Hudson
Zito
I'm back. Sorta.

Do not boo Johnny.

Zito is the safer option, but he will get ZERO run support

Johnson will be the steal of the draft, IMO

Keep in mind, though, that Zito's not a strikeout pitcher and for him to beat out the other three the other three would have to be hurt. I'd put all three ahead of Zito myself no matter what because Zito's workload concerns and his dropping strikeout rate make him a bit of a risk too.

Out of that bunch:

RJ
Zito
Moose
Oswalt

I'd grab 2 of those before I'd grab SMoltz, but I'm always stingy w/ my closer picks.
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.

HA! You are going to need to make a Costco run for butter this offseason ;-D .

If, ranchers will sooner shoot a horse with a broken leg than attempt to find a way to heal the critically injured beast, I would not be in a rush to toy around with a 6-10 gargantuan who has knee problems when it comes to my top draft picks.

A knee problem. 1. Now's he's had the whole offseason to take care of it. ;-)
