What did I tell ya?

See? We should have never learned about how Nomar feels through the newspaper AFTER the Red Sox already started talking to Arod.

The Sox' priority should have been discussing things with Nomar first. Then, if he did not want to commit to an extension, they could have told him privately that they would have to pursue Arod.

Instead, they just plan on trading Nomar like so much trash. Awful.

You don't treat the franchise player, the most beloved player by all of your fans, like that.

Yeah, bad management there. Is it true or a rumour that Nomar had said some "I want out when I'm done" things before or not?
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.

No, management DID try talking extension with Nomar but he and his agent didn't want to so that's on him, IMO.

They wanted to get to work on a deal but since Nomar declined, what else are they going to do? Let him play this year then have him walk and get NOTHING for him?

They're only doing what's right for them. Does it suck? Yes but it's a business. If Nomar didn't want to talk extension when management wanted to then he's got no gripe.

Hey, calm down Timkell. Sure, Nomar says that in public, but privately he is seeking a 4 year, $20 million extension. That does not say "I want to stay in Boston." It says, pay me Jeter money and I'll stay. Otherwise I want to move home.

Nomar has regularly expressed his displeasure through the media about playing in Boston.
I'm back. Sorta.

Calm down? No way I'll calm down!!!! This is a travesty!!!!

:-D

Just kidding.

My point is, there should have been enough of a discussion that they both would have been on the same page about what the Sox are doing right now. Clearly, they're not on the same page.

And maybe he asked for $20 mill, but Epstein could have chuckled mightily, then said, "hey, why don't we wait until Tejada gets signed and see what the market is bearing?"

Then, they could have told the Rangers to sit tight until then too. What are the Rangers going to do? "No thanks, Theo, we're just going to go trade Arod to that other team that's interested. Oh wait, you're the only ones interested. OK, I guess we'll wait."

Nomar knows there's no way he's getting over $15 mill, and probably less.

Have to agree w/ you here. As much as Nomar wants to be equal or better than DJ, NO WAY it gets done in this market. Thats got to be just killing him. Playing third fiddle to his two peers, DJ and A-Rod.

I'm pretty sure--despite his statements--that Nomar has no interest in playing in Boston. If he did, he'd be more willing to talk extension. I'd hate to see him go, but...

And, I'm not sure I buy the idea that Nomar knew nothing about this. Hell, Theo personally flew to Toronto to tell Shea Hillenbrand in person that he was traded.

4 years, $20 million. That's only $5 million a year. Any team would sign him for that. :-D
