First Roto Draft of the Year. How did I do?

Postby tianyi86 » Thu Mar 22, 2007 5:46 pm

Got 6 pick in this yahoo winners 12 team, standard 10 cat roto league.

Round Pick Player Position
1. (6) Johan Santana SP
2. (19) Matt Holliday OF
3. (30) Grady Sizemore OF
4. (43) Paul Konerko 1B
5. (54) Troy Glaus 3B,SS
6. (67) J.J. Putz RP
7. (78) Ben Sheets SP
8. (91) C.C. Sabathia SP
9. (102) Prince Fielder 1B
10. (115) Álex Ríos OF
11. (126) Édgar Rentería SS
12. (139) Takashi Saito RP
13. (150) Adam LaRoche 1B
14. (163) Barry Zito SP
15. (174) Ian Kinsler 2B
16. (187) Russell Martin C
17. (198) Brad Hawpe OF
18. (211) Ryan Freel 2B,3B,OF
19. (222) Carlos Quentin OF
20. (235) Taylor Tankersley RP
21. (246) John Patterson SP

C - Martin
1B - Konerko
2B - Kinsler
3B - Glaus
SS - Renteria
OF - Holliday, Sizemore, Rios
UT - Fielder
BN - LaRoche, Hawpe, Freel, Quentin

SP - Johan, Sheets, Sabathia, Zito, Patterson
RP - Putz, Saito, Tankersley

I feel that I got a bargain by getting Santana at 6th and a steal at sizemore at 30th pick. Health in my pitching staff is questionable, with sheet and patterson hurt every year, and putz and saito both hurt currently. Stls might also be weak.

Is there any other glaring weakness? How would u rate this draft?

Well done. Well done. Advice? Well, I'm not sold on Tankersley, but you drafted him so lowly that if you are, who cares what I think? Rios isn't the best choice for a RF, but it's an admittedly thin position this year. If you have any bench at all or can swing a 2 for 1 and he stays on your team, I'd consider RF eligible youngsters like Scott, Duncan, Cruz, Hart, Gomes, etc. to back him up just in case. That way, you're hedging your bets nicely (why I have Gordon behind Chavez of the bad wrist). I punted on the top 5 more by fluke than by design for RF, and I loaded up on the kids and Griffey to see if that will cobble together a decent one.

Please do comment on mine. You obviously can teach us all a thing or two about drafting:

How did Sizemore fall to #30?!?!?!!??!

So your team reads

C - Martin
1B - Konerko
2B - Kinsler
3B - Glaus
SS - Renteria
OF - Holliday, Sizemore, Rios
UT - Fielder
BN - LaRoche, Hawpe, Freel, Quentin

SP - Johan, Sheets, Sabathia, Zito, Patterson
RP - Putz, Saito, Tankersley

Not bad at all. I would probably look to trade LaRoche for a little more pitching depth, see if anybody weak at 1B or UT would be interested.

Thanks for putting my team in position format :-)

I know I drafted 3x 1b but laroche at 13th round, 150 pick is too good to miss. Who would be a good target for laroche?

Depending on how their 1B & UT situation looks, maybe offer LaRoche for a guy like Rich Hill. Not saying that that'd be accepted(I probably wouldn't take it), but based on where I've seen Hill going in drafts that might be a possibility.

That's good advice. Hill's a nice target there for LaRoche. You could also consider Olsen, but that might be overpaying.

Hill's owner refused. What about targetting an RP to get a 3rd for sure closer? Is Laroche for fuentes doable?

I like it alot. very good balance. I like the RPs alot as well. You're infield is a bit suspect, but just be a WW hawk and you'll be fine.
