Rafael Furcal-SS-Dodgers Mar. 28 - 10:20 pm et

Rafael Furcal (ankle) will likely begin the season on the disabled list, according to manager Grady Little.

"We have to use common sense," Little said on Wednesday. "If he starts with any limp, how long will he be at only 80 percent?" Furcal is running, throwing, and hitting off a tee, so it likely won't be long until he's activated. Since the team can place him on the DL retroactively, he may only miss a few games. Wilson Valdez or Tony Abreu would fill in if necessary.

That's surprising. Thanks for the update.

Maybe he is alright.

According to Sportsline:

News: The Los Angeles Times reports that Dodgers SS Rafael Furcal (sprained ankle) appears to be healthy and will be ready in time for opening day. He threw and ran for the fourth consecutive day while hitting off a tee. "Everything is positive," manager Grady Little said. "By tomorrow evening we should have a good read." Little added that Furcal would not play in the exhibition series against the Angels.

I wouldn't put him in.

Regardless of whether he's ready or not, he's going to be retro-ed on the DL. I doubt I can find a suitable replacement, so I'm going to not play a SS for the week being.

According to Rotoworld"

Dodgers placed shortstop Rafael Furcal on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to March 23, with a sprained ankle.
Furcal might return as soon as next weekend. In the meantime, Wilson Valdez is likely to start at shortstop in his place. Apr. 1 - 3:59 am et
