Texas last offer was $6.5 million over two years, and he's going to sign with Atlanta for $7 million. That stinks. It's not even a full half million difference since we don't have a state tax in Texas.
Yuck!
No state tax? Lucky bastards. In Ontario we pay 15%
Nope, no state tax in Texas. That's why some deals are so dumb. Remember the deal Randy Johnson got with Arizona? I believe it was $44 million? Texas offered $42 million for the same number of years (I think the numbers are right, but I'm positive that the Rangers offered $2 million less). Guess what? RJ would have made more money here because of no state tax.
One of these days, the players will realize that. I blame Ranger's management for not making sure that the free agents they are talking to know about it as well.
Wasn't the no state tax the deciding factor for Juan Gone?

Not that I'm aware of.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Mad.......Could this be what you have been preaching? Baseball players caring more about winning than the money? Maybe they saw that the extra $$ saved in state taxes isn't going to be pitching every 5th day.

Yep, winning over money. What an odd concept huh? The thing about RJ is that Arizona wasn't anything special before they signed him (no offense to Arizona or their fans). Seemed like a smarter deal all the way around to come to Texas.
