john thomson was always an above average pitcher, just usually on bad teams.. he will most likely be the braves 4 or 5 and is def gettin bumped up on most peoples lists.. expecting 12-15 wins with an era around 3.9-4.1 isnt too far of a reach in my opinion.. he always has a prety good ratio and if healthy will pitch around 180-200 innings.. of course hes no maddux but a cheap replacement that should produce
Thomson,
Russ Ortiz,
Mike Hampton
Horacio Ramirez ...
It's over, the run is over ..... "12 pennants" in a row is over ..
Bold prediction? yes I'll say,but if that is what ATL is offering next season .. its over ..
Shame too cus I always loved the ATL pitchers. There always seemed to be a sleeper in that staff ... Not this year .. I'm not bitin'

i couldnt have said it better myself.. just because i think thomson is solid doesnt mean he makes up for the loss of maddux .. or sheffield, castilla, lopez and fick.. but im sure glad they kept julio franco and his 46 year old body .. lol .. we all know that the mets dont have much of a chance this year but they wont look as bad in the east this year as they would have in the past
Texas last offer was $6.5 million over two years, and he's going to sign with Atlanta for $7 million. That stinks. It's not even a full half million difference since we don't have a state tax in Texas.
Yuck!

No state tax? Lucky bastards. In Ontario we pay 15%
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."

Nope, no state tax in Texas. That's why some deals are so dumb. Remember the deal Randy Johnson got with Arizona? I believe it was $44 million? Texas offered $42 million for the same number of years (I think the numbers are right, but I'm positive that the Rangers offered $2 million less). Guess what? RJ would have made more money here because of no state tax.
One of these days, the players will realize that. I blame Ranger's management for not making sure that the free agents they are talking to know about it as well.
