Stephen Drew is not a starting SS in an 8 team league, and kinsler/baldelli are debatable as well.
rest of the offense is sound.
strong pitching base with lackey/webb/smoltz. Good closers, but 5 is excessive. I think I would make room for one of bush/escobar if not both. if not that, with holds as a cat, you might target guys like broxton, zumaya, wheeler, linebrink, shields, mike gonzalez via FA or in a minor trade.
bigh0rt wrote:So I know 8-team Mixed Leagues are essentially useless, but when some buddies from college asked me, I figured why not, the draft should at least be entertaining, and I want to see how stacked my team can be... Plus, most of these guys don't really know what they're doing, so I figure it's another trophy for me It's 5x5 + SLG, HLD, K/9 -- H2H.
So anyway, here's the damage (I had the 7th Overall Pick)...
C - Empty (Barrett is on Waivers, as is the guy I really want... David Ross - I am 100% sure that nobody will pick him up until I decide to) 1B - David Ortiz 2B - Ian Kinsler 3B - David Wright SS - Stephen Drew MI - Julio Lugo CI - Aramis Ramirez OF - Jason Bay OF - Ichiro OF - Rocco Baldelli Util - Paul Konerko Util - Prince Fielder
SP - Brandon Webb SP - John Smoltz SP - John Lackey RP - Huston Street RP - Chad Cordero RP - Brad Lidge P - Jason Isringhausen P - Octavio Dotel BN - Barry Zito BN - A.J. Burnett BN - Chris Capuano BN - Pedro Martinez*
*Once Pedro is placed on the DL, he will occupy that spot for me, and I'll snag the Catcher I want.
Now, to me, this team looks stacked to the max, but I've never been in a league this small before, and am in shock over some of the guys who are on the Waiver Wire...
Frank Thomas, Kelvim Escobar, Dave Bush, Adam Wainright... Like I said, these guys aren't fantasy afficionados, and if I am able to create the roster space, believe these guys will be on my roster. But anyway, is this a stacked 8-teamer like I think it is, or are all teams in such shallow leagues this good??
-Stephen Drew needs to be upgraded
- Drop Fielder and pick up Thomas
- I disagree with a poster above. Don't use Dotel as bait he has the least perceived value. Use Cordero or Isringhausen who have higher perceived value but are not sure bets by any stretch. Use that closer along with Lidge as bait. But definitely get rid of Lidge. Honestly I like your team but for an 8 teamer I feel it could be a little better. You seem to be a little light on power.
Ok, I'm not crazy about your MI combo w/ Kinsler, Drew, and Lugo. Those are three good options in larger leagues but they don't seem great for an eight teamer. I also don't understand why you'd want Ross over Barrett (who is my #5 C this year), but that's just me.
I like the OF (I think Baldelli is a fine third OF) and the SP staff quite a bit. And the closers are nice but you don't have any holds. I'd probably look to move a closer with someone else for an upgrade somewhere and then fill that spot with a Holds guy.
After a few transactions, here's how I'm lookin' now...

1B - David Ortiz
2B - Julio Lugo
SS - Jimmy Rollins
3B - David Wright
CI - Aramis Ramirez
MI - Ian Kinsler

UT - Paul Konerko
UT - Prince Fielder
SP - Brandon Webb
SP - John Smoltz

P - Octavio Dotel
