Sleepers at 2B

Postby kdawg » Mon Dec 08, 2003 11:49 am

Who do you think will be a sleeper pick at 2B this year?

Will Vina turn around and be the player he was two years ago or continue his slide?

What about Keith Ginter in Mil, Freddy Sanchez in Pit??

Any good rookies who potential might make a big splash?

2B is the shallowest position next year. Hopefully, there will be some sleepers because it's not looking very good right now.

With Matsui signing and playing short, that means Jose Reyes will play second. He'll be a great pickup, I think. What round, considering position scarcity?

vina wont turn it around.

bobby hill could get some playing time in pittsburgh.

hairston/roberts out in baltimore might fly under the radar. i think hairston was leading the AL in SBs when he broke his foot. roberts did ok filling in. i dont really know which one they plan to use at 2b though.

i wouldnt count on ginter in milwaukee. spivey will probably be traded but if he isnt then he will play 2b. rickie weeks is the 2b of the future and that might not be too far in the future. he will likely open the season in AA but he might not stay there too long.

looks like reyes will be playing 2b for the mets but most people should know about him already.

chone figgins might be a decent option if you are looking for speed but he only had 14 games at 2b last year so he might not qualify in all leagues.

chase utley didnt do a whole lot for the phillies last year but has some potential.

it looks like slim pickings so make getting one of the top 2baggers a priority in the draft.

I think you guys are a bit too pessimistic about the position. I believe Hudson and Jimenez will be two prime sleeper candidates. I also think Hairston and Rivas could give you + numbers, especially if you're looking for steals. Every season someone returns surprisingly strong value at the position (Giles and Loretta, just to name a couple from last season), so don't panic and reach for a Durham just because of the perceived weakness at 2b.

Gintner if he can get the AB's could go 22 HR and 70 RBI's. Reyes depending on how deep/shallow your league goes. I seriously have my eye on D'Angelo Jimenez at a hitters park.

EY if he goes back to Colorado, too. Spivey could be decent if he gets moved to the right situation, or gets the AB's at Millie-waukee.
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.
