Mariners declined to offer arbitration to OF Mike Cameron, LHP Arthur Rhodes, OF John Mabry, INF Mark McLemore and SS Rey Sanchez. Believe it or not, Pat Borders was offered arbitration. He'll probably be re-signed to a minor league deal before long. With Cameron out of the picture, the Mariners will shift Randy Winn to center field next season and use Raul Ibanez in left. They'll be in the market for a quality lefty reliever to replace Rhodes.
Couldn't Borders just stick it to them and accept arbitration and end up with a better deal than a minor league contract? Not that I really care what happens with Borders...

some times the teams have a handshake agreement ..
If they decline arbitration, the team can't sign them till the season begins, But in somecase's the team will offer arbitration to the player and the player will decline (the hand shake) so, then they can continue to discuss salary ...

OMG thats right ...... David Wells ... we'll they say if you are drunk when you make an agreement, you don't have to stick to it.
not offering arthur rhodes arbitration must mean that the mariners have a good chance of signing guardado.
Borders ended last year as Freddy Garcia's personal catcher, could possibly mean the mariners plan on bringing freddy back or it's just because he is excellent working with their minor league pitchers.
