Rangers want to know by the end of the December meetings (Dec. 16). Do you guys think it will get done?
I am going to say no.

A week ago, I would have said no, but now, I'm thinking its god a really good chance, which is amazing considering the impact it would have, at least financially.
If I were playing third base and my mother were rounding third with the run that was going to beat us, I'd trip her. Oh, I'd pick her up and brush her off and say, 'Sorry, Mom,' but nobody beats me.

i say the odds are about 50/50 right now the only sticking point i see now is how much the soxs are willing to pay on mannys contract
if the soxs pay a decent amount on it i see it getting done if not the deal will not get done.

I agree.
A few weeks ago, I said no way it would happen. Now that Boston has decided that they would pay part of Manny's salary, I say good deal for the Rangers.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
It's his options right ? not the teams ...?? correct ?
yes, he's got player options, and he would have to essentially promise not to use them, and perhaps sign a new contract for those years, saving the Sox some money and allowing them to pass it on to the Rangers to grease the wheels.
from what I understand, that's the score right now.
so, yes, he is most certainly giving up money: the difference between the value of his player options ($20 mil? $25?) and what he agrees to in place of them.
ok, so apparently he has 3 options, not 2, at $27 mil each (cite), so that is a very substantial amount of money that can be saved if he is willing to re-negotiate it.
sweet jesus...I'm only now beginning to understand how absurd this contract is.
