Where can I improve?

Postby drouss48 » Tue Mar 20, 2007 6:58 am

I know my pitching is hit or miss. I am dropping Pedro, and Maroth once the waiver period ends. There are still some viable Free Agent arms left in my 12 team Head to Head league. Here is how my team shaped up:

C- Ramon Hernandez
1B- Lance Berkman
2B- Dan Uggla
3B- Miguel Cabrera
SS- Troy Glauss
OF- Torii Hunter
OF- Michael Cuddyer
OF- Scott Podsednik
U- Brandon Phillips
BN- Jose Guillen
BN- Lyle Overbay
BN- Casey Blake

SP- Roy Oswalt
SP- Daisuke Matsuzaka
RP- Bobby Jenks
RP- Ryan Dempster
P- Josh Beckett
P- Mike Maroth
P- Noah Lowry (expecting good things from him this year)
BN- Pedro Martinez (hurt)
BN- Bartolo Colon (hurt)

Let me know what ya think. Thanks.

Does your league only have one DL slot? I would hold on to Pedro or at least shop him around for a trade. You may be glad you kept him when playoff time rolls around (if your league has a playoff, which if it's Yahoo it does).

I'd contemplate trading for a more well-rounded source of steals than Podsednik -- you don't need to dominate in the category in H2H, just be competitive from week to week and you don't want him dragging you down in the other 4 categories (assuming 5x5 here).

Someone like Baldelli would be nice, or any decent 2B/shortstop with good speed ... Rickie Weeks, Josh Barfield, Rafael Furcal, Filipe Lopez, Orlando Cabrera. Maybe someone like Ryan Freel.

You can use your middle infielders, Podsednik, Pedro and maybe your bench (though it looks kind of weak to me) as trade bait. As long as the deal isn't too lopsided such a move could help you a lot.

At least that's how it looks from where I'm sitting.

The first thing I notice here is that your OF is very weak. Tori Hunter shouldn't be anyone's 1st OF. IF is nicE with the exception of an unproven Uggla. Hope he can pull those numbers again but we'll have to see on that one. Phillips might be better. BN is pretty weak as well. RP is...shaky at best but the rest of your rotation should be at least solid. I think you jut need more talent on offense. Bottom line. Add another bat and you could be alright. Good luck
