Cubs sign Grudzielanek and Goodwin

The Chicago Cubs today agreed to terms with infielder Mark Grudzielanek on a one-year contract for the 2004 season with a club option for the 2005 season. The club also agreed to terms on a one-year contract for the 2004 season with Tom Goodwin. Financial terms were not disclosed.

This is good news for Cub fans. On a sad note, they said they will not offer arbitration to Kenny Lofton . . . so it appears he is likely to head elsewhere.

Yes, apparently Steinbrenner thinks he can copy the Marlins' style by getting Lofton to jump on base each at-bat. Not a bad idea, as he was great at doing that for the Cubs. But we'll miss him!!

Good moves by the Cubbies....I would have rather had Castillo at 2B....but Mark did us well last year and definately deserves another shot at it this year....Goodwin is definately a solid #4 outfielder....

I hate to lose Kenny though....

yup .. unfortunately for some reason steinbrenner loves lofton so much where he will overpay for him and make bernie their full time DH.. does george not realize Giambi just had knee surgery and isnt a great fielder to begin with.. i dont understand the way he works

Why don't they just teach Bernie to play 1B??? It's not that hard to do. That way they could rotate Bernie and Giambi between DH/1B, and Bernie would have 1B eligibility too
