Third Pick - 10 Team H2H

I had the third pick tonight in our 10 team H2H weekly league.

Scoring categories were:
R, 2B, 3B, HR, RBI, SB, AVG
W, CG, SHO, SV, K, ERA, WHIP

First five picks for my team were:

2.) Grady Sizemore
3.) Carlos Zambrano
4.) Chone Figgins
5.) Fransisco Rodriguez

What do you guys think?

Also... is it worth dropping one of my offensive guys (Lopez? Martin?) in order to pick up Dan Wheeler? Or should I wait on him?

Any other things you guys can think of that I'm missing?

One thing I'd like to address is my short pitching staff.

I feel like I'm flexible enough in my offensive players, with all of the multi-position players that I have, that I could probably drop Felipe Lopez and/or Russell Martin immediately.

Pitchers that are currently available as free agents in this league are:

Anybody on this list that I should immediately pick up? I'm thinking Millwood right now, as until I pick somebody up and/or Wood comes back, I'm going to be short a pitcher.

for a 10 team league, your team is looking really good.. The only Question Marks I see are Wood and Ray Durham. Im not a huge fan of Harrang either but u cant argue w/ the production he had last year. If i were you I'd pick up Mike Gonzalez wont be to long before Ol Wickman loses his job and Gonzalez has the stuff to be a serious closer

Okay... thanks. I'll keep my eyes open for him.

As of now, I got impatient, and dropped my backup catcher for Kevin Millwood (clears tomorrow). With Wood in my starting lineup, it's a little too scary for me.

I'm keeping my eyes open for an upgrade at either 2B or 3B, but I think the guys in my league will be pretty hesitant to make any moves yet this early in the season.

Definitely considering it... although I've gotta say that I'm kicking myself now for short-staffing my pitchers. Any injury at all is going to cripple me, so I need to have some pretty durable guys.

No love for Wheeler here? Gonzalez is the consensus option?

I would hold off on Lopez til you see if he will play 2b or not.
I would immediately put him above Durham if he become eligible.

Well, I've already got Figgins playing 2B right now, ahead of Durham... so that leaves me with another question.

Assuming my Util is going to be Thomas.
Assuming my 1B is going to be Giambi.
Assuming my OF will be Sizemore/Sheffield/(Swisher)/Drew/(Markakis).

I don't really need Figgins in the OF, so he's available at 2B/3B.

Durham sucks. I know this. But, Encarnacion isn't much better at 3B.
If Lopez does become 2B eligible, what's my play?
Figgins at 3B, Lopez at 2B?
Or keep Encarnacion at 3B and Figgins at 2B?

Like I said, I know Durham isn't going to be my first option at 2B either way.

Maybe I'd be better off just dropping Durham and assuming that Lopez will become SS/2B flexible? Then I can juggle Figgins/Encarnacion/Lopez anyway that I want, and not worry about Durham?

I'm hating dropping Durham more than Lopez though... that's a crapload of RBIs and a very solid average. Lopez brings speed, but I've already got quite a bit of that.

Of course, this being a weekly H2H league, I can adjust day-to-day or week-to-week which stat categories I want to load up on, so maybe I should really be looking at keeping both of these guys and leaving my pitching staff the way it is (with Escobar/Gonzalez added and Martin/Wood dropped).... lots of choices here. I suppose that's a good thing.
