Diamond to have Tommy John surgery
RHP Thomas Diamond will have season-ending Tommy John surgery Tuesday in Birmingham, Ala. Dr. James Andrews will do the procedure.
Rangers GM Jon Daniels said Diamond felt arm discomfort in his "A" game appearance on March 6 (he gave up two runs on three hits with two walks in one inning of work). He had a MRI and Daniels said doctors were surprised, based on where they thought Diamond's discomfort was, that he needed Tommy John surgery to repair the ligaments in the elbow.
"You feel for Thomas," Daniels said. "He worked so hard this off-season. Fortunately, it's a surgery that has a pretty high success rate."
Daniels said he expects Diamond to be ready to pitch in spring training next year.
