So, what do you think he'll do this year? I'm not expecting 20 wins, but would it be out of the question to look at maybe 17 or 18 from him?

I would expect 17 wins with hopefully an ERA under 4

i think he'll be a big sleeper since everyone thought so highly of him on draft day last year and got really nothing but double plays if that counted in your league but hopefully he can learn from curt and rebound

I almost have to wonder if he was hiding an injury last year. His K/BB rate was 110/72 (1.53) WAY down from 2002's 127/48 (2.64).

He's definitely a stud w/ that nasty sink, but think he's lost some velocity.

Bill James book has some interesting Lowe tidbits:
Lowe threw the highest % of fastballs of any AL pitcher, 79.6
He had the 9th slowest average fastball ( 87.2 mph), BUT
as you know he's easily the highest GB/FB pitcher in the bigs w/ his 4.38( Halladay = 2.62; Webb 3.92 are next closest AL/NL)

With that sink, I just don't understand how his ERA was that high? Did more ground-balls-w/eyes just find there way through?

Anyway, in my book, he's a guy w/ HUGE potential, but also some downside too. Very tough to predict. His ERA could be under 3, or above 4.60.

Plus, now that schillinmgs in, he'll be moved down a spot in the order which could translate to more starts against weaker starters. Possibly more wins? :-?

Good point.

The Orioles did that with Sidney Ponson last year to increase his trade value.

lowe already gets a lot of wins. moving down makes him something special if your team can take a hit in era

lots of wins because of run support, but not great stats otherwise is my prediction.
