First draft of the year, Plus! league 5x5. Thoughts? WHIR

Postby Nafgar » Sat Mar 17, 2007 11:31 pm

This was my first draft of the year. I THOUGHT I was prepared, but everyone in this league was top-notch, and I had to make some hard decisions. Below is the roster, with round I got each player in. Any input would be greatly appreciated. I think my best picks were Lee and Peavy, but I reached for Ray, Pierre, and Cuddyer.

First question - Who are my starting outfielders? I need to package Overbay+ a SB outfielder for some power I think.
I didnt want to take Derrek Lee as my UTIL so early, but I got him in round 4, and thought that was a little too late to pass up.

C-Mike Piazza (14th)
1B-David Ortiz (2nd!)
2B- Iguchi (13th)
3B-David Wright (1st)
SS-Carlos Guillén (6th)
OF-Juan Pierre (5th Reach?)
OF-Michael Cuddyer (9th Reach?)
OF-Coco Crisp (17th)
Util-Derrek Lee (4th)
BN-Willy Taveras (15th)
BN-Chris B. Young (19th)
BN-Lyle Overbay (20th!!!!!)
BN-Curtis Granderson (21st!!)

SP-Jake Peavy (Late 3rd)
SP-Jeremy Bonderman (7th I like)
RP-Chris Ray (8th)
RP-Brad Lidge (10th)
P-Rich Harden (11th Good)
P-Joel Zumaya (16th)
P-Jonathan Broxton (18th)
BN- Bronson Arroyo(12th Mistake? I think so)

You definitley reached on Pierre and Cuddyer. Try to deal Pierre for some power, your team lacks it.

Your team also has some pitching problems. Peavy, Bondy, and Harden I all like, but all of them have their question marks. You also only have 4 starters, but you might be going with the MR strategy based on your set up guys which is fine too. But I think you reached on them as well.

Right now it's a middle of the pack kind of team, you need to shake things up a bit.

I agree with the first poster. Trade Pierre for power, hope Harden stays healthy, and you have a good shot. I'd keep a close eye on the WW for closers, as Lidge is a bit risky, and I don't totally trust Ray.

Mine please:

I agree with your assesments, anyone else? I'm actually starting to like this team, aside from outfield questions.
