A-Rod rumors again.

Try this one:

Curt Schilling's now in Boston. Will Alex Rodriguez join him?

According to a Thursday report on DallasNews.com, the Texas Rangers are open to trading A-Rod to the Boston Red Sox -- for the right considerations, of course.

Sources told The Dallas Morning News that the Rangers would entertain dealing the $252 million man and 2003 American League MVP to Boston in exchange for outfielder Manny Ramirez.

The catch, according to the report, is that the Red Sox would have to absorb A-Rod's contract, which has seven years and about $180 million left on it; and, the Sox would have to play part of Ramirez's $20 million-per-season tag. The slugger has four years left on his contract.

Neither Rangers general manager John Hart nor Red Sox GM Theo Epstein were available for comment.

Fine with me. And then trade away Nomar for a bunch of young players. The Angels have plenty....

BTW I don't believe it will happen.

Why would the Bo Sox take over A-Rod's salary, and still pay part of Manny's? That makes absolutely no sense to me. So it would prolly happen in Epstein's drive to beat the curse

I'll say this stuff is really getting whacky. There's going to be a lot of stuff going down next week at the meetings, and much of it no one is going to expect. This is one of the reasons why I love the sport so much.

Why not just send Manny to Texas and Nomar to the Angels. Then the Angels could send Texas some pitching prospects and Eckstein. Boston gets A-Rod and everybodys happy, right?

Saving a whopping $5 million a year is not enough to move Arod.

Hmm.......That sounds very familiar to me.......... If only I could remember who's been saying that. :-?

Saving $5 million is worth it if you can get some quality pitching prospects too and put the money saved towards pitching. Maybe they could even just take Manny for a couple years and then trade him to a contender if the Rangers still aren't in contention.

Did you see what happened when the Red Sox attempted to "trade" him away...asking for nothing in return?

The only way A-Rod or Manny are getting traded is for each other. Their salaries are so absurd that there's no way they could ever be rent-a-stars for contender stretch runs.

Yes but if you hang on to him for a couple of years then thats a couple years less that he has on that huge contract. He'll be making $20 million the next two years but only $19 million in '06 and $18 million in '07. Maybe by then things will change and someone will be interested in him.

Manny Ramirez OF BOS Signed Dec 2000 - 8 years/$160M
2001: $13.0M (+$16.0M signing bonus paid over 5 years)
2002: $15.5M
2003: $18.0M
2004: $20.5M
2005: $20.0M
2006: $19.0M
2007: $18.0M
2008: $20.0M
2009: Team option $20.0M
2010: Team option $20.0M
