Garza might not make Twins

Postby issyg67 » Thu Mar 15, 2007 1:34 pm

Says he might get beat out by Sidney Ponson and start the season in Triple-A. Are you kidding me? Is there anyway he's not on the Twins' opening day roster?

For some reason the organization will always give the nod to veterans, even if they suck. Ponson will probably start in the rotation, after 10 awful starts Garza will be brought up and start the remainder of the year.

they arent bright. they have a lot of talent there.
but if hes not improving and he needs some spot starts in AAA let him stay down there for 2-3 weeks.

Yeah, that sounds about right. He'll get his shot one way or another (especially since Sidney Ponson of all people is the guy blocking his way to the big leagues).

Not to hijack this thread but if Garza doesn't make the team and he and Lester both start in the minors. Which one would you take with a pick for your reserve squad? Both would be $5.00 if reserves in my 12 team AL only

As far as "real" baseball goes, putting Garza in AAA isn't a bad decision. He will continue to get regular starts while he waits for a rotation spot to open up. I don't mind seeing the Twins give Ponson a chance.

I basically see bringing him to Spring Training his chance. He's been awful thus far and I hope they don't insert him into the rotation just because he is a veteran.

I agree that for fantasy baseball you want Garza in the majors from the word go. But in real life it is a good move to start him in the minors if you feel there are 5 other pitchers that will do a decent job right away.

And it is mid-May folks. The organization is gonna promote these veterans as viable guys. If Garza pitches strong from here on out and someone viewed by the organization as at this point being lightly penciled in the rotation (ala Ponson or Silva) struggles a lot then you'll see Garza in the rotation right away.

Terry Ryan is a great GM, especially shown by how he does well with a limited payroll and smart draft picks and shrewd trades.
