Hall of Fame voting (answered)

Postby Arlo » Tue May 07, 2002 3:29 pm

Hank Aaron may have hit the most homers in major league history, and his 406 Hall of Fame votes out of 415 possible ballots, or 97.83%, is pretty impressive as well. In fact, only four players were elected with a higher percentage of votes. Name them.

Hints: the top two are pitchers, and two - a pitcher and a third baseman - were elected in the same year.

Nobody has ever been elected with the maximum possible number of ballots, which makes you wonder...

How about Tom Seaver, Nolan Ryan, Brooks Robinson and Sandy Koufax.

Seaver and Ryan are correct! Isn't it simply amazing that Seaver tops this list?

That leaves the other two: a third sacker who was inducted fairly recently and an all-time great hitter...

Good guesses, but no. The 3b was a contemporary of Schmidt, but the other player was much earlier than Reggie...

Ty Cobb had a high percentage, but I don't know exactly but I guess he's in there easily!

i guess it was George Brett.

and it will interesting to see, how many votes Cal Ripken Jr. will get when he will eb eligible.
I think he is the only one who has a chance at breaking the 100% right now.
