Is he going to make the Pirates roster this year?. Ive got to admit, I never payed to much attention to his minor leage stats until now..Check these minor league stats out. Guy has some power 8-o

2003 28 HR's, 80 RBI's (A)
2004 39 HR's, 137 RBI's (A,AA)
2005 40 HR's, 103 RBI's (combined AA,AAA,ML Stats)

not too bad..not bad at all

Did you happen to notice his strikeout totals? He strikes out well over once a game on avg. Since tehe Pirates have LaRoche under cheaply under contract, the Pirates don't have room for him so he'll likely be traded with his good spring performance. The problem not that many teams are looking for 1B but he'd fit better on an AL team. No one has doubted Eldred power but his average and K tendency has to be looked at in addition to his numbers.

I heard they tried him in the outfield a couple of games ago, so...4th outfielder? I admit I don't know much about the Pirates' depth chart.

I've heard this too. They mentioned it on the baseball morning show on XM the other day.

His performance so far in Spring Training has basically forced the team to try him in the outfield. I think he's played a game or two in right field so far.

I have a hard time believing that he won't make the team at this point. Worst case is they start him at Triple-A to get more OF experience and he's up in mid-May or something.

That said, he's nothing more than a bench OF for the Pirates right now, even if he does make the team.
