But more or less, I'm curious.. how did Rick Ankiel fall apart? Was it simply mental issues with his control or was there something terribly fishy? He had the potential to be so great and then it all fell apart. How did it happen? He was touted as so good..
I think it was a perfect combination of newbie anxiety which caused him to fail so grandly on the national stage coupled with a fragile personality that prevented him from getting over it that ultimately ruined his career. I also remember Chuck Knoblauch had his mental block that caused him to miss throws to first. His problem was probably similar to Ankiel's but on a smaller scale. All of this is probably why sports psychology is the big business it is today.
He's hitting .304 with a homer this spring though.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....
Rick Ankiel gets waived by St. Louis and gets claimed by Boston. With which Rick Ankiel will claim the OF spot intended for Wily Mo and along with Cancer boy Jon Lester will go back to the WS, where they'll face former drug addict Josh Hamilton and the Reds

Nonono, think about if the Reds claimed him. Ankiel and Hamilton in the same outfield would be SICK. Bring back Albert Belle out of retirement and you'd have the perfect outfield.

drawing inferences from comments he has made my guess is anxiety disorder.
He was Nuke LaLoosh without the benifit of Susan Sarandon's undies.
All kidding aside. This is just amazing that he's still around working on his fielding. I've never seen that before. He must really love baseball. He had the hardest breaking curve that I ever saw. Guys would nearly fall over and the pitch would be on the outside corner.
