Hasegawa has been offered a two-year contract thought to be worth $4 million to $5 million. He has apparently submitted a counter-offer to the Mariners. He will be offered arbitration too.
Also: Mariners free-agent closer Shigetoshi Hasegawa told the Yomiuri Shimbun in Tokyo he has received an offer from New York, and has offers from nearly 30 teams. He said he will make his decision by Jan. 10. -seattle P.I.-
Hasegawa doesn't seem to be close to signing with anyone right now. Here's an article about a counter offer to the Mariners:
Shigetos Hasegawa - R - Seattle Mariners Dec 2
Shigetoshi Hasegawa's agent says he will present the Mariners with a counter today to Seattle's first contract offer. Agent Greg Clifton said despite reports that have the Yankees, Red Sox and others interested in Hasegawa, the Mariners are in front. "They are the only team that has presented us with a formal offer," Clifton said. "Now it's time for us to respond." Source: Seattle Post-Intelligencer
Seems that Boston hasn't offered Shiggy a formal offer.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

Any explanation for this? Why would people NOT want Shiggy?
It's not that they don't want him, it's that they are all taking their time. It's not a race and the winter meetings haven't even started yet. That's where most of the discussions take place.

I know December 7 is a key date, but I would think that Shiggy would be much sought after... and with Gordon and Hawkins gone, and Foulke and Quantril possibly following, he should be getting more attention.
I know it's early... but no other formal offers? That seems odd.
