Projected Rotation

Postby BlueBandit24 » Mon Mar 12, 2007 9:02 pm

The rotation is the biggest question mark around the Twins this spring, so how it will pan out is anyone's guess. After Johan, it's filled with uncertainty. Ortiz has been solid thus far and seems to have a leg up on the competition. Here is what I believe the rotation will be:

1-Santana
2-Bonser
3-Silva
4-Ortiz
5-Garza

Silva scares me as he has gotten roughed up this spring and seems to have lost his sink. If Bonser and Garza step up and Ortiz can harness his potential, the team should be alright. Anyone else have thoughts on how the rotation shakes out?

As of right now it seems Gardy is pretty set on this rotation:

1-Santana
2-Silva
3-Ortiz
4-Ponson
5-Bonser

I can't say I'm excited about that. Silva and Ponson really scare me and could be huge liabilities. Bonser should be #2 IMO and Ortiz is a bit of a gamble as well. Time will tell how this turns out, but as of now the rotation looks weak.

Yeah, it didn't appear as though Silva and Ponson were very impressive in ST yet it looks like we're still going to give them a shot. Decent write-up on Silva in the StarTrib yesterday (3/20).

I think it's almost a certainty that by mid-season either Garza or Perkins (or both) will replace either Silva or Ponson (or both) in the rotation. From what La Velle Neal suggests, it'll be Silva who's spot is less cemented.

I definitely agree that if Silva and Ponson start the year in the rotation, one of the young guns will be taking over for them before long. Thank God the team at least has depth and options in the rotation because on paper right now it doesn't look pretty.

Silva's grip on a rotation spot is slipping badly after a 3 1/3, 11 hit, 9 run outing a few days ago. A spring ERA of 11.02 has the Twins obviously concerned. His sinker just isn't working at all.

With Garza sent down it's official. The Twins rotation is gonna be:

1-Santana
2-Ortiz
3-Ponson
4-Bonser
5-Silva

The order is subject to change, but those are the 5. Oddly enough, the Rochester rotation might look better than that.

1-Garza
2-Perkins
3-Slowey
4-Swarzak
5-Baker

It doesn't concern me. It's similar to last season.

Our best prospect (Liriano/Garza) is the odd man out of the rotation for Silva and some other older player we are trying to let in (Lohse/Ponson).

Of course, sometime early into the season, Silva and the older, tenured player will be demoted to the bullpen or minors, making room for the prospect. They will then go on to dominate with Johan. Of course, this time Garza won't be injured.

In all seriousness, I'm not in love with the rotation. It's not sexy (especially Ponson, Silva, and Bonser in those pants!) but if we can get decent outings and still be in the game when our pen gets in the game, we'll be fine until Garza and Slowey and Perkins are ready.

Besides, we got Johan.

Well Ponson got roughed up last night, although he wasn't as bad as the numbers indicated. Hopefully Silva and Ponson are solid cause the team can't afford to throw away games at the back of the rotation.

I didn't catch Ponson's game (just saw the stats), but I was told the same thing that Ponson wasn't as bad as it seemed statistically. Good news, we'll see how he does going forward.

Am bummed. I played Boof against the Yanks in one league and after the Twins were roughed up by the Yanks a few times, decided to sit Ortiz yesterday. Yeah, that was the right move. !+) :*)

I didn't get to see Silva's game Saturday, although I read it was good. I'm not convinced, it was freezing in Chicago and I don't think anyone wanted to swing.

Ponson wasn't as bad as the numbers said, like you indicated.

Boof is Boof.

But I'm really happy with Ortiz.

Hopefully Silva can pitch well tonight.
