Is LaRoche a steal or not as good as I think he is (or is 1b just that deep)? He's 27 and he hit .323 with 19 HRs after the ASB last year. Looks like he could bat behind last year's batting champ and ahead of Jason Bay, but the cafe has him as the 16th ranked first baseman this year.
I like him this year and just drafted him (pretty late, pick 155) and was just wondering what other people expected from him this year.

I think he's a steal at 155

I would agree. I'm not certain why he seems to be so overlooked in fantasy -- though I suspect after last season many more people began to look at him, but quickly forgot about him when he was sent to the Pirates.

Don't tell anyone about LaRoche. He's a steal for where you can get him in drafts. Keep him a secret for as long as possible.

Once again, it comes down to the guys name. His name isn't very sexy, so people dont think he is any good. That's how fantasy works. Use that to your advantage and get a 35-40 HR 1B on your team!

I agree with the above posts. He is a steal in the middle-late rounds. I drafted him at 167 and was ecstatic. I think he is overlooked now more as a function of his new home field at PNC more than anything else.

He's over looked because his name isn't sexy. Couple that with playing for the Pirates, and forget it. No one will pay attention to him.

He is good value for sure.
But 35-40 HR. You are delusional.

this is what yahoo says:

Outlook: Sharing a similar last name with the former Rage Against the Machine front-man, LaRoche was a "Bull on Parade" in Hotlanta last year blasting 32 homers with 90 RBI in 492 at-bats. Now in the Steel City after the Mike Gonzalez swap this past winter, LaRoche will play half his games in a ballpark known as a hook black hole – PNC ranks second since 2004 in fewest lefty homers allowed. In his power prime at 28, you would think 40 homers is attainable, but a repeat '06 performance is more likely. Don't overpay.

Why such a drop off in lefty homers at PNC? The right field fence is 10 feet further in the Atlanta's. Doesn't make sense to me
