"I'm hoping these trades will do that (put a quality team on the field)," Diamondbacks ace Randy Johnson told Channel 3 (KTVK). "But if we're not winning, there's no need for me to still be here."
"We can win," Colangelo said. "My baseball people have told me that, and I'm buying it."
This kind of forecast requires a little imagination. Sexson will have to have another banner season, and then ignore his ascending market value to stay in Arizona. The farm system will have to yield even more fruit, and last year's crop will have to prove themselves all over again. This does not even address the alarming lack of the depth, the questionable rotation or what to expect from Randy Johnson's 40-year-old knees.
But I am just a pawn, and now the king has spoken. His team will be fine. You have his word.
Welcome to more ....... Baby Backs ...
Fallout from the Two huge deals that they just swung .....
eastvalleytribune wrote:Arizona’s everyday lineup — at least as everyday as manager Bob Brenly gets — is intriguing:
Finley, CF Cintron, SS Gonzalez, LF Sexson, 1B Shea Hillenbrand, 3B Danny Bautista, RF Matt Kata or Scott Hairston, 2B Robby Hammock, C The starting rotation, on the other hand, looks like a three-run inning: Johnson, Brandon Webb, Elmer Dessens, Oscar Villarreal, John Patterson. Re-signing Miguel Batista would be a huge plus, but that’s unlikely if Arizona sticks to its $80 million payroll ceiling and can’t trade another salary, i.e. Bautista or Matt Mantei. What you see now is likely what you’re going to get come February
Looks like there is trouble brewing in 'Zona land.....
Useless Trivia of the day
England's Worcester Canoe Club set the world record for paddling a hand-propelled bathtub. The 25 man team covered a distance of 55 miles, 425 yards in 24 hours on September 28 and 29, 1979.
The trades created just one certainty: The Diamondbacks have sacrificed pitching for hitting. The games they lost 2-1 last season they’ll try to win 6-5 next season.
Hmm...is losing 6-5 any better than losing 2-1....
"It was clear to anybody who watched this team we didn’t hit the ball over the fence enough," said general manager Joe Garagiola Jr.
Well...no chit......

Wow ... The NL West without Curt, Kevin and RJ .... The big Three ..
I'm starting to like Brian, Jacob and Adam even more... I can see George now ... OK Theo, You got Curt, I get RJ and Brown. Top that.
Notice the positioning by a certain GM .... He knows who needs pitching .
On Monday, Colangelo made it a point to make a few peripheral observations. He wanted it known that his feelings toward Yankees owner George Steinbrenner had nothing to do with Schilling's new home. That cleared up, he couldn't resist a little dig at the men in pinstripes, saying the Yankees "never really made an offer with any consequence." And he insisted that the Diamondbacks are not waving a white flag, obviously bristling at observations that his team has become the Marlins West
all this great news ...... one right after the other ... This could be the best Christmas yet.
What are the chance's that the Giants and Dodgers implode too ?
shame it will never happen.
An irritated RJ? Guess who just moved up my draft list a peg or two.
Things seem very screwball for the D'Backs right now. Hopefully for them it will settle down soon.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

John Patterson is the next Brandon Webb. Ya heard it here first.
"Jack, will you call me, if you're able?"
"I've got your phone number written, in the back of my Bible."
