I was talking to some people at home this past week, and the Padres look very, very good. I know WR has harped on this for awhile, but what does everyone else think?
Say they sign Maddux: Him with the young'uns--Eaton, Lawrence and Peavy would be great. Plus, with Giles and Hernandez added to Nevin, Klesko, etc., their offense is going to be quite good.
Thoughts?
(By the way, have you heard the already-coined nickname for "Petco Park": "The Litter Box".)
The NL West is shaping up for a dog fight next year.....I like their offense...I think KT needs to make a move on a quality starter....but they are stacked....

arizona, sf, and the padres are gonna have a really exciting division next year. add a ton of hitting in coors and exellent pitching and a pitchers park in la and you have a weird division. anything can happen

I heard "Bark Park" a while back. I like the sound of it more than "The Litter Box".
And, I would be surprised if any fans who really follow baseball closely were not hyped up on the Padres. Ever since the Giles trade, many baseball experts have been proclaiming that they are one of the best up and coming teams.
I'm certainly going to be keeping an eye on them. Lots of nice sleepers to draft on that team.
Yes doctor, I am sick. Sick of those who are spineless. Sick of those who feel self-entitled. Sick of those who are hypocrites. Yes doctor, an army is forming. Yes doctor, there will be a war. Yes doctor, there will be blood.....

SD has put themselves in a better spot. Alot still rides on their young player's. They still could be a year away imo. It depends on the progress of guys like Eaton, Peavy, Burroughs. They will be pesky, maybe even contend, but they still are young, especially in sp. They only won 64, 100 won the west. even if they improve a whopping 20 games, they still are only at 84 wins.

Signing Maddux would be huge. Not only would that add a great veteran pitcher to the squad, but he'd help teach those kids to pitch.
