Who will be on the AZ Diamondbacks roster?

Postby chinch sacs » Mon Dec 01, 2003 8:01 pm

I'm curious to see their teams line-up and rotation...

c - R. Hammock (R. Barajas)
1b- Sexson
2b- Kata
ss- Cintron
3b- Hillenbrand
lf- L. Gonzalez
cf- S. Finley (old ass man) maybe Q. McCracken
rf- Mondesi (?)

sp- RJ
sp- Webb
sp- M. Batista
sp- E. Dessens
sp- A. Good (?) maybe J. Patterson C. Fossum???

closer- Mantei
rp- J. Valverde
rp- O. Villarreal
rp- B. Lyon
rp- C. Fossum???

I'm not sure if this is right (with Mondesi in rf, and the rotation) but this is what it looks like to me...

Do they have a chance to win the NL west?

Has anyone kept up with their minor leaguers?

Is Chad Tracy going to play next season?

How did Mike Gosling do? will HE make the Rotation or Bullpen next season?

That looks like a pretty good line-up prediction.

There is no way that this team will win the NL West next season, I do not care what the experts have to say.

I think CBS predicted the NL West shaping up like this in 2003:

1. Arizona
2. Los Angeles
3. Colorado
4. San Francisco
5. San Diego

Hehe, darn so close!

I believe that Arizona reported that they are trying to find a way to get Tracy into their line-up. Last I heard, they were considering giving him a shot in the OF.

My Arizona prospect question is, will Scott Hairston be a legitimate candidate to beat out Kata for the starting 2b job next season?

I had heard good things about Hairston (any relation to Jerry Jr?) before 2003, but I didnt hear ANYTHING about him all year...

NO.
Current list of "Free Agents"

That close to where I have them too. I need to read up on what they just did and why. this simple little Sexson deal just stripped them. I see Kata as Bob Brenlys new .. .. Counsell ...

9 players 8-o

C ... Hammock/Barajas
1B .. Sexson
2B .. look to sign FA to compete with Kata, Hairston will be here soon
SS .. Cintron
3B .. Hillenbrand
OF .. Gonzo
OF .. Finley (who may get traded before july, FA '05)
OF .. FA ..

Starters.
1 .. RJ
2 .. Webb
3 .. FA or Batista ... they are pushing hard for Batista
4 .. Dessens
5 .. will be a nice battle worth watching between Good, Patterson, Fossum and Edgar Gonzalez and maybe a few others..

Relievers
1 ..Mantei
2 ..Valverde
3 ..Villareal
4 .. Lyon

I don't like to discount teams this early unless it's very obvious they don't have the talent. Sure, they have to have a lot go right to win, but they potentially have improved their offense a great deal, their pen is not bad, but their pitching has some question marks. If Johnson rebounds and Webb continues where he left off and they sign a decent third starter, then I don't see any reason why they couldn't win the West. Those are some big ifs, though.

I know you're a Giant fan, Savage, but I see the team getting very thin in talent. They've been amazing the past few years in playing better than their talent would suggest, but how long can it last? With Grissom, Hammonds, and Perez major cogs of the team right now, it seems to me they need a major infusion of talent, especially if Bonds starts slipping.

I see your point, but right now SF. has a friend called 17 million dollars. There is no way that Grissom, Hammonds and Perez will all be opening day starters, barring injury.

It is too early to let loose any meaningful predictions, but I will be surprised if the Giants are not in the hunt next season.

Let's see how wisely they spend it.

Alls I know is, they survived Kent's departure very well, but there comes a time when there just isn't enough talent left to allow the band-aid approach to work. Eventually, this team will crash and burn if they don't acquire some more talent, and it could be this season.
